From Bar Exam to Blog Posts: Beyond the Billable
For me, life is more than just billable hours. This belief inspired the name of my blog: Beyond the Billable.
A couple of months ago, I achieved a milestone I had been working toward for six years: I became a fully qualified lawyer.
This journey was marked by plenty of ups and downs in every aspect of my life - personal, academic and professional. There were moments where I considered giving up and changing my career paths entirely. But I persisted, and now, what once felt like a distant and unachievable dream has become my reality. I have earned the right to independently practice law and make it my profession.
I am incredibly proud of this accomplishment and excited for the opportunities ahead.
That said, unlike many of my peers who embrace law not just as a profession but as a lifestyle, I’ve chosen a different perspective. For me, life is more than just billable hours. This belief inspired the name of my blog: Beyond the Billable.
Why a blog?
Many authors argue that the best way to think is to write. This resonates with me, so I’ve decided to put it into practice. Writing helps me clarify my thoughts and knowing that other people will have a chance to read what I write encourages me to express myself more thoughtfully.
Through this blog, I aim to share ideas, thoughts and stories – not just about being a lawyer but about everything beyond the profession itself that bring joy to my life and enables me to be a better professional.
Let me be very clear: I’m not a senior associate or partner with a perfectly mapped out life and career. I am a junior associate lawyer, who recently passed the bar exam and is still figuring things out.
This blog will be a space to document my progress, evolving ideas and aspirations. The thoughts and ideas shared won’t be absolute truths – they will be hypothesis, musings and recommendations of things that have worked or work for me, given my personality and preferences.
So, if you are curious about joining me on this journey of exploration and growth please subscribe! I’d love to have you along as I navigate life, work and everything that goes Beyond the Billable.
